The Human Rights Center and the Institute of Gender Studies co-organized an international seminar on child labor and migrant labor in Asia. We aimed to broaden our understanding on these issues through presentations and discussions by experts and scholars who had researched on facts, policies, and social movements regarding child labor and migrant labor from a human rights and gender perspective

About the Presenters:
Sharya Scharenguivel is Professor at the Faculty of Law, the University of Colombo. Holding post-graduate degrees from Harvard and Oxford, she has served various senior positions at University of Colombo, including Dean of the Faculty of Law. She is now the Director of the Center for the Study of Human Rights. She has widely published on family law and the rights of the child. Her expertise in these areas has also been recognized by policy makers, governmental working groups, and the civil society sector.
Nicola Piper is Professor at the Department of Sociology and the Director of the Master’s Program in Human Rights and Democratisation (Asia Pacific) at the University of Sydney. Her area of expertise is international labor migration with a specific focus on migration governance from a rights-based and social movement perspective as well as gender.
