<Call for Applications for the 2023 Geneva Human Rights Organizations Visit Program>
In order to promote human rights awareness and creative problem-solving skills, the SNU Human Rights Center calls for the application for participants interested in the field of international human rights to visit various UN human rights organizations including the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Permanent Representative of Korea to the UN in Geneva, and the UN Office at Geneva. This program is aimed at learning international cooperation and efforts to respond human rights issues, the establishment, enforcement, and monitoring of international human rights norms, and enhancing their understanding of international human rights by providing opportunities to observe the deliberations country reports of the UN Committee Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and CEDAW, and meet and talk with experts in the field.
The program is primarily offered in Korean, but may be delivered in English in some occasions.
Selected students must participate in pre-study sessions (approximately 4 hours in total).
○ Number of participants : 8 Undergraduate students
○ Visit Period in Geneva : 20 June 20 (Tue) - 30 June (Fri)
○ Eligibility
- Undergraduate students enrolled at SNU (including students leave, but excluding those scheduled to graduate in August, 2023.)
- Those who can communicate in English
- Those who do not have any disqualifying reasons for travelling abroad
- Those who can participate in the entire program schedule, including 2 pre-study sessions and program in Geneva
○ Participation Fee
- Out-of-pocket expenses: Round-trip airfare and personal expenses including food, etc.
(NOT covered).**
- Support from the SNU Human Rights Center: program operating costs, accommodation (1 room for 2 people), travel insurance.
** However, among the selected students, oonly students who fall into the 0~1 income quintile of the Korea Scholarship Foundation, such as the basic living allowance recipients and the next highest income quintile, receive round-trip airfare and local activity expenses (KRW 250,000) (required to submit supporting documents, see attached file for details).

- Applicants will be selected based their understanding and interest in international human rights through the application, activity plan, and interview.

- Interviewee announcement: April 4 2023 (Tue) (scheduled)
- Interview date: Apr. 10 (Tue) - Apr. 12 (Wed)

- Announcement of successful applicants: Apr. 14. (Fri)
○ Application Due: Mar. 29 (Wed) 18:00

2) submit the documents via email (hr-courses@snu.ac.kr) titled “Geneva/Name/Student#/Application“

2) 1 copy of statement of and activity plan [attached form]
3) 1 copy of enrollment certificate as of 2022-2 semester (enrolment certificate for students leave)
4) 1 copy of transcript as of 2022-2 semester [printable from MySNU portal]
5) 1 original legal representative consent form (only for students under the age of 19, born after 1 March 2004) [attached form]
6) Supporting documents for students who are in the 0~1 income quintile of the Basic Livelihood Recipients, Secondary Class, and Korea Scholarship Foundation (only for bursary applicants)
* Note: No need to submit certified language transcripts
○ Selected applicants must submit the original participation pledge and legal representative consent form before starting the program and complete their flight ticket purchase no later than May 5th (Fri).
